The Millenium Goals were formed in 2000 when leaders from around the world met and decided what the goals would be. The goals were formed to help reduce poverty around the world by 2015.
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Target: Halve the proportion of people living on $1 a day
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Target: By 2015 all children can complete a full course of primary schooling (boys&girls)
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Target: Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005 and at all levels 2015
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Target: Reduce the under five mortality rate between 1990 and 2015
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Target: Achieve universal access to the reproduction health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Target: Achieve universal access to treatment for all those who need it by 2010
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Target: Reduce biodiversity by 2010
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
Target: Address the special needs of landlocked developing countries and small island developing states
